A Note from The Founder

The House That Lars Built is on a mission to inspire artful living. "Artful" is a way of life. It's being deliberate about the things you invite into your home whether it's a carefully folded victorian puzzle purse or a colorful, illustrated calendar. It's selecting the most beautiful things to surround yourself with because life is too short not to.

We believe in creating beautiful things.

We hope our shop encourages you to celebrate creativity and joy. Everything we sell is carefully curated or designed with hopes of inspiring you to elevate your spaces, live with more color, and make something with your hands!

The House That Lars Built is the blog Brittany started in 2008. At the time it was part of an assignment in an interior design class, but quickly grew into a hub for craft projects, inspiration, and interior design ideas.

The shop began on Etsy in 2012 selling commemorative items Brittany designed for the royal wedding of Kate and William. After going viral on news sites around the world, she started to focus on DIYs on the blog. It was revived again in 2018 for the wedding of Meghan and Harry and then transformed into a way to sell templates, printables, and patterns to accompany the huge archive of projects housed on the blog. Since its beginning, the shop has grown to sell products we have designed and curated that fit the Lars aesthetic. Read more about the shop’s background here!

Most of our artwork is created in house by our incredible Lars team, however, we have collaborated with artists and designers in the past. The artist will always be mentioned when it is a collaborative product!
